Here, we have gathered numerous pieces of information and travel tips that may interest you before your visit to Armenia.

 

Language: Armenian is the official language, with its own alphabet consisting of 39 letters, but you can communicate almost everywhere in English. During the Soviet regime and for some time afterward, Russian was taught as the second native language in schools, along with German and French. Therefore, you may also encounter people who communicate in German or French. Knowledge of Russian can also be helpful.

Entry: The airport (IATA code: EVN) is located in Zvartnots, 12 km from the capital, with approximately a 15-minute drive. A second airport is located in the city of Gyumri, 120 km from Yerevan, with less capacity.
Direct flights are available through Fly One, Austrian Airlines, Czech Airlines, and LOT Polish Airlines. Since 2013, citizens of the EU are exempt from visa requirements for up to 180 days per year.

 

Internet Connection: As a modern country in the Caucasus region, Armenia boasts numerous internet service providers, and almost every major city has a range of public spaces offering free WiFi access. Nowadays, every hotel provides internet access, and cafes, restaurants, museums, shopping malls, and subway stations also offer free internet access.

Currency: As of early 2024, 1 EUR equals 435 Armenian Dram, though the exchange rate fluctuates by about 10% constantly. You can exchange dollars and euros not only at banks but also at the airport, border crossings, branches of major supermarkets open 24/7, and numerous exchange offices in Yerevan and major cities. Credit card payments are also very successful.

Transportation: Public transportation in Armenia is well organized. Yerevan has a subway system with 8 stations, and in recent years, the city has been enriched with modern buses, as well as electric buses, minibusses, and shared taxis, making it very affordable to get around the city. This allows you to plan your own free day or evening. From the bus stations in Yerevan, there are also trips to various places in the provinces.

Safety: Armenia is considered one of the safest countries in the world for travelers. However, one should beware of pickpockets at markets and bus stations.

Climate and Clothing: The climate is continental-dry. Being a mountainous country, large differences in altitude lead to significant temperature variations. You can experience all four seasons here, although in recent years, Yerevan reportedly experienced winters without snow. The travel season is from March to the end of October, with the best times being spring and autumn. It's advisable to carry rain protection as well.

Health: There are no required vaccinations for traveling to Armenia. However, it's advisable to purchase travel health insurance that includes repatriation coverage.
