Armenischer Vatikan
Welcome to Yerevan, the capital of Armenia. You will first be greeted by a German-speaking tour guide who will accompany you to your city hotel, where you can check into your rooms and rest a bit. Today, we will explore the Armenian capital located in the shadow of the biblical Mount Ararat, one of the oldest capitals in the world. We will visit the Republic Square, Cascade, and the Opera House through a pleasant walk in the heart of the city. Under the architect Alexander Tamanyan, old stonemasonry traditions were revived, and the Republic Square became the showcase of a new, confident nation. Passing by the radio station "Yerevan," we will drive to the impressive Cascade, which forms the heart of the city. From here, you will have a beautiful view of the entire city. We will then drive past the village of Musaler, where the survivors of the Musa Dagh, made famous by Franz Werfel, were settled, to Etchmiadzin, the seat of the Armenian Catholicos and the religious center of the Armenian people. A cozy lunch under the shade of apricot trees. Visit a gem of Armenian church architecture, the Church of Hripsime from the 7th century. Visit the Genocide Memorial at Tsitsernakaberd. Overnight stay in Yerevan, Hotel Ani Central Inn.
In the Shadow of Ararat
Today we will explore the Ararat Plain, where Noah is said to have planted the first vine after descending from Mount Ararat. The Ararat Plain plays a significant role in the country's viticulture. Drive to the Chor Virap Monastery, where we can enjoy a magnificent view of Mount Ararat. Viticulture in this region dates back to the 3rd millennium BC. In a cave in the province, wine barrels with traces of wine from that time have been found. The endemic grapevine Areni, used to make the well-known red wine "Areni," grows here. Lunch in a natural cave. A fantastic experience! Visit the Noravank Monastery, located at the end of the beautiful Amaghu Gorge, which impresses with its unique exterior reliefs and its reddish facade that blends almost seamlessly with its rocky surroundings at sunset. Continue south to the green city of Goris. Overnight stay in Goris at Boutique Hotel Khoreayi Dzor 4

Over the Orbelyan Pass (2410 m), we reach the beautiful mountains of Vayots Dzor. On the way, we visit the only well-preserved caravanserai in Armenia on the Silk Road. Continue to the blue pearl of Armenia, Lake Sevan, which is twice the size of Lake Constance and one of the largest high-altitude lakes in the world (situated about 1900m above sea level).
